Give Me Your Word

Bible Reading: Psalm 119:169-176

“Let my cry come before you, O LORD; give me understanding according to your word! Let my plea come before you; deliver me according to your word” (Psalm 119:169-170)

Our lives are solely dependent on the Word of God. We often fail to realise the reality of life that lacks direction and hope in the darkness of prevailing evil. If we take a step back and just observe the world, without Christ who came as the Word to proclaim the truth, there is no truth. There will only be man’s speculations. Man-made religion and man-made science would be all that we have to attempt to comfort and answer our anxious hearts, questioning our existence in the universe. No real answers come out of these because they are just speculations and observations from mere man. When suddenly your best friend dies, these “answers” will be of no help to you.

The one and only pillar of truth is in the Word, in the person of Christ who condescended into the earth as 100% God and 100% man to proclaim the truth to humankind. John 1:1,14 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son, from the Father, full of grace and truth”.

The one and only pillar of absolute truth of God, our creator, is found in Jesus Christ. Some might consider Him a fool or a madman; however, He proved to us that He was and is the truth. He fulfilled all the Old Testament prophecies during His lifetime. Not only that, He said He would die and rise again in three days, and He fulfilled that. Christ showed Himself to be the truth by being the only man who could defeat the power of death. He is truly God, and He is the only source of truth for all of humankind.

The account of Jesus, the words of Jesus, and the whole story of Jesus are written down in the Holy Scriptures. All of the Bible is inerrant because God used and guided men by His Spirit to record all that He wanted humankind to know. The answers to the reality of life are found only in the Word of God. Only in the Word of God is there true hope and life for you and me.

Day by day, we must cling to the Word of God, not only to the written Word but also to the Spirit who can illuminate and enlighten us to understand the Word, which is strange to us who are tainted in the nature of sin. Like the Psalmist in Psalm 119:169-170 pleas, let us plea for understanding according to God’s Word daily. We desperately need it. Let us also come to Him with all our sins, brokenness, problems, and pain. Seek His Word and seek deliverance in the truth of God’s Word, God is good, and His commandments are right. There is fullness of joy in living a life of truth in His Word.

Lord, please give me Your Word today. I cannot and will not understand nor find deliverance in Your Word unless You have mercy on me and grant it for me. There is no truth and no answers apart from You. In Christ is all the truth and fullness of grace that I desperately need. Do not reject me and do not hinder from granting me Your Word. You say those who seek You earnestly will find You. I seek You, Lord, give me your Word today. I ask in Jesus’ name, amen.

Am I Really Alone…and Unloved?

I never thought I’d be here, helpless, weak, sick… holding onto dear life. Can God really be with me? If He is, does He even love me, and why would He? Or am I truly alone? Surely, if He loved me, He wouldn’t let me suffer like this…
